It won't be long before the year is over and as 2023 gets closer to the end, DC Comics reveals what it has in store for November. Solicitations for the month reveal a number of goodies for DC fans, such as Speed Force, a new Flash series and Batman '89 and Superman '78 receiving sequel series. But the month will also see certain titles receiving fun variant covers.
Working with McFarlane Toys, several DC Comics releases will be getting covers that feature action figures from the DC Multiverse line. The plastic figures recreate several notable moments from DC history, such as Superman '78: The Metal Curtain #1's variant mimicking the Man of Steel's debut in Action Comics #1 or Batman #139's cover showing Bruce getting his back broken by Bane. Other comics receiving such variants are Batman '89: Echoes #1, Detective Comics #1078, Batman and Robin #3, Batman/Superman: World's Finest #21, Alan Scott: The Green Lantern #2, Hawkgirl #5, and Wonder Woman #3.
McFarlane Toys is an action figure company created by comic book legend Todd McFarlane and is known for making highly detailed toys from all sorts of television shows, movies, and comics. In 2019, McFarlane Toys secured the rights to create a line of toys based on characters from the DC Universe. Dubbed 'DC Multiverse', the line created 6"-12" figures of some of DC Comics' most popular characters. Unlike other superhero toy lines, DC Multiverse primarily catered to a more mature line of toy collectors.
Variant covers are a fun experience for collectors, especially when there's a theme running through various series. In the past DC has featured covers recreating moments from DC's long history and even variants featuring toys (such as its Robot Chicken-themed covers). But this is the first dedicated month when McFarlane Toys will prominently feature on the covers of numerous DC series. While some may balk at the stunt or write it off as advertising for McFarlane Toys, others may see it as two companies working together for a line of covers that honors some of the greatest characters in the comic book medium.
McFarlane Toys was created to give fans action figures that went above and beyond and accurately represented beloved characters. DC Comics has had a working relationship with McFarlane for years at this point, and to see the two team up for a line of variant covers is a good thing.
Fans get to see the love and care McFarlane Toys puts into their work as the toy company honors iconic moments that hardcore DC fans are sure to appreciate. DC Comics fans can get their hands on the McFarlane Toys variants this November.
